Why do I need to re-register when I have worked for Impact before?
We love it when people return to work with us and it’s a regular occurrence – Year on year we have students, who come to us for employment during breaks from college or University courses, as well as other ex-Impact temporary workers who for a variety of reasons, come to us looking for work again, having had a positive experience in the past.
We are proud that people return to work for us and we want to make that process as straight forward as possible. We understand it can be an inconvenience, no one likes to fill in more paperwork than necessary; So, why do you need to provide your personal details again and ‘re-register’ if you come back to us after a break in assignments? A very reasonable question we think, and here is our response.
First and foremost- it’s a payroll and compliance matter – it’s important to us that you are paid correctly and that the information we hold for you is up to date.
If a temporary worker has finished their assignment and requests a P45, OR when a P45 is automatically generated due to there being a break of 12 weeks between assignments, their previous registration is archived on our system, removing them from our payroll and as a worker for Impact Recruitment. Therefore, they will need to re-register to complete our documentation and their information again. Personal circumstances can often change, so it is particularly important for information such as bank details, home, and email addresses to be up to date. Ensuring this information is correct also confirms we are acting in compliance with The General Data Protection Regulation (Data Protection Act 2018)
Another reason we need to re-register a worker after a period of inactivity, is in order to prevent illegal working.
As an employment business we are legally required to ensure we have undertaken all the relevant Right to Work (RTW) checks, under Home Office regulations and in accordance with the Immigration Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. As a fully compliant employment business, Impact is required to be able to prove, at any time, that we have current, valid RTW checks and documentation for all our workers.
You may wonder why we need to prevent illegal working? According to the Home Office website “The ability to work illegally is a driver of illegal migration. It leaves people vulnerable to exploitation and results in unscrupulous employers undercutting compliant businesses. It can also negatively impact on the wages of lawful workers and is linked to other labour market abuse such as tax evasion, breach of the national minimum wage and exploitative working conditions, including in the most serious cases, modern slavery.” Therefore, and in order to enforce that, any employer found to employ someone who does not have the right to undertake the work in question, may be liable for a civil penalty.
We hope that it reassures you to know that it is important to us that we work with integrity and always do the things the right way, to protect you, as well as our clients and our team. We hope you will find the process as simple as the first time you registered and are happy to assist you in any way we can.
If you have any other questions or anything you feel needs to be explained about our processes, we are always willing to address them or signpost you to further information. There is no such thing as a silly question- if you’re wondering why…? someone else may be too.
